After months of sticker-ing by you and sticker-spotting by us, Tuesday morning it all comes down to five $20,000.00 prizes and 60 seconds.  That’s how long you’ve got to choose your grand prize in the 2010 JRfm Sticker Search.  It’s like Deal or No Deal except each Deal is an awesome Deal.  We’ll call our winner and ask them to make their call Tuesday morning at 7:10 on 93.7JRfm…

PVR Passion

The emmy awards the other night finally confirmed what critics have been saying for years:  television is in the middle of a bonafide renaissance.  One theory is that cable outfits like HBO and Showtime started creating some fantastic original programming and now the traditional networks are upping their game too.  The point being, there is simply way too much good tv to keep up with.  Certainly if you have any kind of life, and I try to.  Example:  I am the only person I know who makes a point of watching Breaking Bad, the series that has won Bryan Cranston the best dramactic actor emmy for 3 years in a row now.  And STILL no one knows about that show.  This year his sidekick Aaron Paul (who’s fantastic on the show) won a supporting emmy too.  As a side note, you’ve gotta find/download some back episodes of this series.  It’s quite possibly the darkest/bleakest story in the history of television, and it’s populated by decent but tragically flawed characters who continually make horribly bad choices and try to fix them with even worse choices.  There’s some really black comedy mixed in, but otherwise this is “Drama” with a capital D and man is it ever well done.

Bryan Cranston in all his cancer-stricken, meth-cooking glory

Pardon the side rant…anyway, between that and Glee and True Blood my PVR has more quality TV than I can handle any given week.  And I’m completely missing the boat on all the other great stuff out there…had to give up Mad Men, my wife looooooves The Good Wife, I regret not having seen a single Modern Family.  Dexter, Nurse Jackie, Community, Parenthood …the list is looooong.  And the upcoming season apparently has more “must see” tv too.  Remember when that was just a stupid NBC slogan?  Who knew Hollywood could actually pull it off??

So tell me:  what tv show do you absolutely never miss?  It’s okay, you can say “Bachelor Pad” and we won’t mock you.  Okay, we’ll mock you but we get it.  Sometimes the guilty pleasures are as addictive as the quality ones.  We’ll be bringing this up on the radio show soon, but you can start by leaving your tv treasure as a comment here…

If you’ve been going to The PNE lo these past hundred years or so, you’ll know that is the last weekend to get your licks in.  Literally.  That’s why we’re going to bring back “Will It Lick Me?”, the petting zoo game that combines cute approachable animals and the dramatic mystery of tongues.  Plus, a chance to have fun with the fine folks that strap you into the Twizzler when we play “Are You Smarter Than a Carnie?”  Nick the Guy will be our quizmaster for these challenging/frightening events tomorrow morning on JRfm.

Crew Clip Wednesday, September 1st: being nice at work 101

There’s a reason why “sycophant” sounds like “sickly sweet”:

PNE 2010

pne-2010

The 100th anniversary of the PNE started off with an afternoon concert by The Beach Boys and Bryan Adams. Locals still love Bryan Adams, especially on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I spent it in the press box with other members of the media; radio and t.v. This was my first time at Empire Field, too bad it’s a temporary structure, it’s a nice venue. Other than finding a place to park, everything went well…but I didn’t realize there is a no shirt no shoes policy, I just wish someone had told the barrel chested guy groovin to the music and performing some rather creative dance moves. PNE is open through the long weekend!

“Bombs for Bucks”…who doesn’t like getting bombed now and then?

Thought you’d enjoy the pix from the uber-summery “Bombs for Bucks”…Nick the Guy was on the ROOF of Gabby’s Country Cabaret in Langley, hurling waterballoons at Waking Crew listeners who get $$ if they catch them.  Yup, he has a very strange job.

Here’s the very wet Johnathon after being doused with the $50 mega-”Dolly Parton” sized balloon. He still looks pretty happy! ;)

And this is Richard and Bronwyn in the parking lot as seen from above by Nick the Guy. Note the huge $50 watermelon sized waterballoon Bronwyn just caught and Richard’s… um… “refreshing summer beverage”. Ha!
