A terrific thing happened Tuesday morning on our show. Someone who really deserved to win a really big contest prize won that prize. We were genuinely moved by our conversations with Julie Miller, grand prize winner in the 2010 JRfm Sticker Search. And based on the flood of emails, calls, tweets, and facebook posts since it happened, it appears those listening were misting up a bit too.
Thousands of people were seen with latest edition of the JR Sticker on their vehicle over the past 4 months. From all of those, Julie was randomly chosen as the final winner and this morning was given the task of picking between five different $20,000.00 grand prizes. If you’re a regular listener, you’ve heard all the contest specifics already so let’s get right to the parts that rocked our morning. First, here’s the initial call with Julie (and her gang) as we gave here the great news:
Great lady, nice family, right? We were all feeling great about her win when she called us back a couple of minutes later:
So now we’re all choking up. How awesome is that? We knew JR listeners would be touched and empathetic about Julie’s reaction but because her comments were so personal, we made sure we had Julie’s permission before airing that 2nd call. Doesn’t the whole thing strike you as a ‘meant to be’ event? We had calls about it for the remaining 2 hours of the show…we asked one manly man if he hadn’t choked up just a little:
The staff at JRfm by and large think our job is to provide entertainment. We play some great tunes, have some fun and hope that the whole mix agrees with you at your end. Sometimes we even get to give away some cool things. And once in a while, when the right elements line up in the right way we get to feel like we had a hand in something meaningful. And for that we thank YOU, Julie.

I’m so touched that a prize of this size went to someone so needing a helping hand.
In very simple words, I guess this is part of what a radio broadcast “has” to be.
Music, fun, and sometimes a hand in something meaningful. Your job IS quite meaningful. Always thought so.
Fabrizio.
I am so gald that someone who really needed the help won….I always tell my kids that things have of way of working out when life seems that darkest. It brings tears to my eyes even now…I am so happy for Julie and her family.
Cheers
